Our Most Frequently Asked Questions
We crafted this FAQ page to answer many of the frequently asked questions we have been asked along the way.
Don’t worry! We are here to help. You can learn about the basic steps in building a website on our Web Design Process page, and see our Tools & Links section for information on what we recommend for buying domain names, website hosting, stock photos, etc. We also have a guide on How to Prepare for a Website Project and more in our Learn section.
If you still have questions after that, we are happy to book a paid one-hour call or host a more in-depth Digital Clarity Session, so you can ask us all the questions you want.
A domain name is your address on the internet. Typically it would be something like: www.yourcompany.com.
Web hosting is essentially where your website files live. It’s basically space on a computer in a data centre that runs your website and email, and allows your website to be viewed on the Internet. We can help you set this up.
The cost of a website varies depending on a few factors, just like the cost of a house varies depending on its size, features and finishes. Our website projects typically start in the $4,000 range and upward depending on your unique needs (such as e-commerce, member sections, automated marketing, etc).
Having a clear objective for your website, and well organized materials helps cut costs.
The time it takes to produce a website depends on its size and complexity, and the quality of content that you have ready to go. It also depends on how prepared you are to go through the process, as there will be quite a lot of back and fourth, and we will need your input and sign offs. A basic website typically takes around 4-8 weeks from beginning to end, if we work efficiently together.
Yes, but we will help you get this set up if it isn’t already. We can work with your existing hosting provider, or with our preferred host Siteground. We recommend them because they are cost effective, have good support and provide free security certificates. Read more about Siteground here.
Yes, it will. All the websites we design will work on mobile devices, like smartphones and tablets. This is also called ‘responsive’ design.
We sure do! We have built a wide variety of online stores and believe e-commerce is the way business is heading. One of our most successful projects to date was an e-commerce store. Take a look at our Prairie Girl Case Study to learn more about it.
A Content Management System (also called a CMS) is website built with software and a database. It provides a very flexible way to make updates through an admin area. This means you can log in to the website from anywhere and make changes directly; like adding and updating images, text, videos, PDFs, banners, news posts, and website pages.
WordPress is the most popular CMS system in the world and our favorite tool for building websites. Over 455 million websites are powered by WordPress, making up over 37% of the internet. It’s important to note that CMS websites need to have ongoing maintenance, as they are wonderfully flexible, but also have potential security challenges. Learn about Web Care here.
Yes, we offer clients training on how to use the features of their website. We work with you to identify your level of experience, immediate and long-term update needs, and create customized training – delivered over phone, video, or by Zoom.

Search Engine Optimization is all about maximizing your ability to rank in searches on Google. The higher up your site shows for your main keywords, the more traffic (and customers) you’re likely to get.
There are many aspects to take into account to achieve good SEO, and one of the most important is the content (text) on your website. Regularly posting well-written, keyword-rich and engaging content is the key. Your site also needs to be fast loading, work on mobile and (typically) have a security certificate installed to rank well.
We offer monthly SEO packages as part of our digital marketing strategy.
Your website needs to be Search Engine Optimized (see above) but since there is a lot of competition already online, you may need to consider some paid ads to get listed high up in Google searches.
