Case Study: Prairie Girl Bakery

Prairie Girl Bakery

Prairie Girl Bakery is one of our longest clients, and a project we are very proud of. We first started working with them in 2010, when they were an ambitious start-up. They planned to open a cupcake bakery in the heart of the Toronto financial district with a focus on high-quality ingredients and family perfected recipes.

Over time they grew to five locations in two cities, multiple delivery vehicles and dominated online cupcake and cake sales.

Project Included

Brand Development

They came to us with a vision board of ideas, magazine clippings and collected inspiration pieces, and a lot of questions.

They needed help developing a logo, creating a brand, designing print materials and developing an e-commerce store, which would launch at the same time as their brick and mortar store, for the most impact.

We helped turn their vision board into a memorable brand, that is fun, fresh and professional, to speak to their business that values fresh, high quality ingredients and great customer service.

Graphic Design

In order to translate their brand across a variety of media channels, and appeal to their wide customer base, they needed a lot of design collateral.

We designed their store signage, business cards, menu cards, print materials, brochures, display posters, advertisements (magazine, digital, and animated), and graphic wraps for their delivery vans.

We helped ensure their brand and messaging was always consistent, recognizable and mouth-watering.

E-Commerce Website

Prairie Girl Bakery needed a strong online presence, with a an e-commerce solution that they could manage internally and synchronize with their in-store POS system. We designed and developed a mobile responsive website with a complex ordering and product capping system.

The website has many time-saving admin features built in, that let the staff manage their day to day orders, promotions and sales, customize and update products, market for upcoming holidays and manage orders and product delivery.

Unfortunately, the 2020 global pandemic lead to Prairie Girl Bakery closing permanently, but we are continuing to work with them on an exciting new project set to launch in 2022.

Digital Marketing

We managed all components of their monthly advertising strategy and campaigns; from keyword research to developing ad creative, to managing paid search, social ad management and analytics.

We helped drive customers to their website to encourage online sales. Our goal is to continuously nurture existing customers, expand the customer base, reduce the CPC (Cost Per Conversion) and drive hundreds of additional purchases through the website each month.

Cookbook Photography

In 2014, Prairie Girl Bakery approached us with a very exciting project – to help capture the photography for a cookbook they were publishing with Random House.

The book would require over 50 images of their cupcakes, in a variety of lighting conditions and setting, to create a dynamic and unique cookbook. Every image would need to be different – styled, captured and edited for print.

From planning through to delivering the final print-ready images, after 10 days of shooting in studio with them, it was a very exciting project to be part of. The book turned out beautifully, and it was one of our favourite projects.

I had high expectations for Christina based on what I had seen of her work and on her professional approach to the tendering process, but she managed to still exceed them. I absolutely love the logo she did for me and the website is looking really great – friends and family are in awe of it. Since the first day of working together, Christina has been very responsive, a great listener, eager to please and has always checked along the way to make sure that I understand what stage we are at and that I am completely satisfied.
