Speaking at WordCamp Calgary

downtown calgary

WordCamp Calgary was this past weekend on May 28/29, 2016. It was a great event to share knowledge amongst the WordPress community. This year I spoke at the event about Tools for Managing Multiple WordPress Sites.

Here is an overview of the talk:

WordPress is an incredible platform that continues to innovate and grow, but with that comes almost constant updates. WP core, plugins and themes can require frequent updates and there are a variety of ways to track and manage these updates. We will look at strategy, tools and workflow to manage multiple WordPress sites and keep everything up to date. Note this is not relating to WordPress multi-site installations, but multiple independent installations.

The talk discussed

  • Why you should update WordPress
  • How regular maintenance is essential for a stable, healthy website
  • How a management system/software can help
  • Review of the 7 most popular WordPress management dashboards
  • Factors to consider in your choice of management system

After almost 6 years of running a freelance business with a strong focus on web design using WordPress, I have been through the trial and error of managing multiple clients sites. I have used a number of management tools and dashboards and want to share my experiences. This talk would be useful for people managing multiple WordPress sites, for clients or personal projects, with at least a basic understanding of the WordPress backend.

Thank you to everyone who attended my talk, and also to the event volunteers and organizers. It was a great weekend!
